Crazy Drifting at Lydden Hill. I thought Norfolk Arena Drift Practice was drifting fun at it’s best and it was great fun but this one at Lydden may of topped Norfolk Arena.
It was an eventful day to say the least……

It was a wet start at Lydden on the 26th of April but I was sure it was going to brighten up as the day went on! Had some wet sessions in the morning with my Blister Caz, which was great apart from not getting a full lap……drifters spinning of every damned where….

My bruv & Karen arrived around 11’ish. Got a text from Stel to say that she was on her way with a BBQ 😉 Things were looking brighter already!!!

Back at Lydden Hill 4th Time Lucky

Back at Lydden Hill 4th time lucky, for some more drifting fun hehe. The 22nd of March! Hopefully it would all go smoothly this time! Last time at Lydden on my 3rd Session the damn throttle cable snapped……leaving me with a long drive home with a hand operated throttle in heavy traffic! Fun, I think not…

After a run of drifting misery over the past month due to destroying the sump at Arena Essex a few weeks ago! This is a major problem when fitting the M52 engine into a lowered e30, as the alloy sump will be the lowest point on the car & worse still its at the front….beware of big speed humps!

You need a sump from a E34 M50 525, these are getting hard to get now and you will be paying extortionate amount of money for it. Then fitting the sucker, not so easy with the engine fitted. This time I made up a sump guard for some protection!

On top of that, had another little crash at the arena last week, on the same bend & the same f`ing quarter panel…….it was looking bad, had to get to work on it with some panel beating, not perfect but not too bad 🙂

Drift Practice at Lydden Hill 2014

Drift Practice at Lydden Hill, 15th Feb 2014. Arrived at 9:15am ……a little later then planned. Parked up in the pits & opposite me was Peter Green in his V8 powered E30 beast! I would have to have a chat with him later but 1st thing was 1st, had to go sign in.

Went down to the office where there was no queue, result! Sometimes it works out better been a little late 😉 The lovely young lady signed me in & gave me my wrist band & Orange sticker for the Novice Inter group & unlike last time on the reserve list I wouldn’t have to keep going back to check if i could drift again, woo hoo!

I had missed the 1st session, hmmm at times been late isn’t so good! Not to worry I had another 5 sessions to go!

Time to unload my tools, my tyres & check the tyre pressures. All the pressures were low even the fronts? So spent about 20mins pumping them up!

What I hadn’t realised, is that the gauge on the pump was set to Bar & not Psi……so now they were really pumped!!!

Then a familiar face approached me, it was Christian Freed. Met him through ebay when I was getting the M52 328i lump for my E30 swap, he was in the process of fitting the mighty M62 V8 to his E30!

He was selling the complete kit but I never won the bet but Christian had been a great help with tips & advice when I was fitting the M52 lump, although I wished I went the V8 route, still might do the V8, soon, very soon…… You just cant beat that V8 rumble & power!

British Drift Championship 2013 Review

British Drift Championship 2013 Review. Although the British Drifting scene is coming along in leaps and bounds & the quality of drifters & cars has stepped up to another level altogether, there is a little problem.

The TV coverage is still somewhat lacking. Motors TV been the only channel broadcasting the BDC. Needs to be more mainstream & on for longer to fit more drift action in. Hopefully things will improve in 2014!

The BDC needs to get onto some of the Bigger tracks of the UK, like Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Snetterton etc to get more recognition & draw in some bigger sponsorship deals. And they need to add a couple more rounds to the season…. 🙂

Its a bit hit & miss trying to watch the BDC on Motors TV & the coverage & production of the show is pretty poor! To be honest its shit! The commentators get on my tits & they only show some snippets of the actual drifting & they talk too much shite, often leaving the viewer unsure of whats going on!

Sadly it has a long, long way to go before they come anyway near the level of the Drift scene in Europe or the USA.

Round 1 at Lydden Hill, the 1st competition of the season. I went to see this event which was pretty damn good.

Booked for Lydden Hill Drift Day 2014

Booked for Lydden Hill Drift Day 2014 Round 2. Not long now, just got to get the Beamer ready for it, as last time the gearing was too low & the old girl wouldn’t keep the wheels smoking up in 3rd gear 🙁 but still had fun apart from all the stopping with people spinning of, as the only group I could get into was the Novice Group!

T Dirte at Lydden Hill DriftingTreated the Beamer to an Limited Slip Diff with a 3.9 ratio. This should keep her spinning up in 3rd gear. Drives so much better with the LSD, turns in better, accelerates faster & feels like a new car!

The welded diff served well but parking & tight slow turns was a bitch with the welded! People looking on in horror at the car like something was gonna break of it.

The welded diff was just a bit rough for road use, but with the Lsd there’s no more Tyre hoping, skipping or chirping & all the clonks, rattles & creaks have gone. Plus, with all the strain on the half shafts & bushes I’m surprised something didn’t break……Result!

Got a 350mm Nardi imitation wheel from flea Bay. And as the saying goes, you get what you pay for! Although it looks the part & fees good in the hand. Once fitted you can feel it hasn’t got any real strength when pushing or pulling on it, I just need to be gentle with it then….. Continue reading

Lydden Hill Drifting Day

Lydden Hill Drifting Day, last one of 2013 on 30th November. Smoking, smoking, smoking! Well not quite……..read on.

This was to be my 1st proper Drift day on a proper and most importantly Dry track!

Dirty E30

It was an early start for me, up at 5:50am, quick cuppa & left after 6:30am in darkness. The roads were clear all the way & got to Lydden Hill in just over an hour.

The main pits were already full so parked in the pit area above. Time to sign in. Queued up for about half hour, only to be told that there was no places left!

WTF, my heart sank but I wasn’t beat just yet! Every 10 or 15 mins I would go back to see if any places were available? Only to be told, again & again, No, afraid not, come and check back in about 20mins.At 10 o’clock the girls in the office said I could have a place in the NOVICE group, wanted the Novice/Intermediate group but Novice will do fine I thought

But I would have to come back before each session to make sure the missing drivers hadn’t turned up! WooHoo, that was good enough for me, time to get ready!Removed all my tools and spare wheels from the beamer & my sister signed in for passenger ride. Not long now, couldn’t wait!

Smoking, Smoking, Smoking at Lydden Hill Race Track. On 30th November, this coming Saturday its time for some proper drifting, on a proper track & hopefully dry track.

A mate of mine Christian Freed who has a V8 powered E30 Beast showed me this video of his mate Peter Green in his V8 powered e30 Drifting machine at Lydden Hill in May 2013 at the Retro Drift Challenge!!! 😉

This will be the circuit I will be Drifting on this Saturday, WooHoo! I do like Arena Essex but this is how drifting should be, with a plenty of speed and lots & lots of Tyre smoking smoke……
